Compare Sonnet 130 by Shakespeare and the Glasgow Sonnet by Essay

Comp are sonnet 130 by Shakespeare and the Glasgow Sonnet byEdwin Morgan. poetry has many forms and styles of which it can be written andemphasised in. A sonnet is peerless of these forms. They mainly consist offourteen lines, but can be set out in cardinal different musical modes. One of two styles of sonnet is Elizabethan. William Shakespeare is anexample of a poet and writer of this time period, and possible one ofthe most recognised for his work. William Shakespeare wrote anastounding 144 sonnets within his life time. The absolute majority of thesesonnets were mainly based upon love or insincere compliments. TheElizabethan sonnets are usually of the lyrical in content and differin building. This indefinably differs from the ripe style of sonnetthat we are use to. This is because the Elizabethan poem contains third stanzas of four lines and it finishes off with a rhyming coupletat the end.The structure of the modern sonnet is a complete anomaly compared withthe Elizabethan so nnets. This is because they put on two stanzas, thefirst consisting of eight lines and the second consisting of sixlines, they are called the octave and the sestet. The sestet is theconclusion of a modern sonnet which contains a heart and soul whereas theElizabethans message is held within the couplet. The modern sonnetsusually verify a meaning of poverty and desolation within it and thetones vary extensively, although a sense of fundamental contentment isestablished with the rigidity of the form. The imagery utilize in Sonnet 130 is that of always comparing the womanin which Shakespeare is talking about to natural beauty.Shakespeare is very strange and different in the way he bring outs hismistress in this sonnet. This is because of ... ...etis trying to get crosswise to the people out there willing to listen. Hefeels that people vex been ignoring these situations and the problemshave become increasingly worse. The content of this poem has given aparadoxical look and it is al l a part of social realism.I feel that Sonnet 130 is very utile in the way Shakespeare putshis opinion across about his partner. The humour of the sonnet bringsa more appealing feel to it. Although the problem with the sonnet isthat message isnt opened to see straight away, you have to look at thesonnet in more depth to see what message Shakespeare is trying to getacross. The Glasgow Sonnet has a very serious message to it and the way thewriter uses metaphors and similes to describe the area that peoplehave to suffer living in, is very effective and makes the reader thinkabout the realities of life.
